Ten young men and women were selected to travel to Nijkerk in July. Interviews with interested
youth were held in April. The Council Committee was privileged to select
youth who were outstanding ambassadors
representing our community. Chosen for the trip were Sarah Erano, Bobby Gallant, Brittany Lester, Zachary
McKeeby, Brenden Martin, Casey Norton, Johnathan Perog, Becky Rose, Beth Volks
and Justin Perog. The selection was very
difficult since we had 13 outstanding youth who applied for the trip. Michael Brockbank and Amy Brule went as
chaperones. Travel arrangements were made through
Trevi Travel. The Nijkerk Foundation planned
and executed an exciting visit for the youth including reception with Mayor G.D. Renkema,
a potluck dinner, biking to Spakenburg, a visit to Efteling Park, biking to
points of interest in Nijkerk, a day in Amsterdam and a visit to the Zuiderzee
Museum.
With the help of material prepared by Laura Lee Linder, the youth
performed a re-dedication of the plaque in the Dutch Church in
Nijkerk.
Special thanks goes to Youth
Exchange Committee, Ron and Donna Lagasse, Amy Brule, Michael Brockbank and
Connie Colangelo. Also we extend our
thanks to Laura Linder, Anneka Bull, the Erano family, Karen Lagasse and Sharon
Fox. Of course we can’t forget to say thank you to the Nijkerk/Schnectady
Foundation under the leadership of Edith Terschegget for planning an exciting
visit for the youth.
